Top 5 Communication Apps Performance in South America for Q1 2024

In the first quarter of 2024, the top five communication apps in South America demonstrated varied performances across weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Here’s a closer look at the data provided by Sensor Tower.

WhatsApp Messenger maintained a strong presence with weekly downloads fluctuating between 1.6M and 2M. The highest downloads were observed in the week of March 11, reaching approximately 2M. Revenue saw a peak of $51 in the weeks of January 22 and February 5, while active users steadily increased from 211.4M at the start of January to 217.6M by the end of March.

Telegram experienced consistent weekly downloads, starting at around 1M and ending the quarter at approximately 869K. Revenue showed an upward trend, peaking at $66K in the week of February 26. Active users were relatively stable, with a slight dip in mid-February before ending the quarter with about 24.3M users.

WhatsApp Business also performed well, with weekly downloads ranging from 659K to 798K. Revenue peaked at $2.9K in the week of March 4. Active users rose steadily, starting at 21.9M and reaching 22.9M by the end of March.

Messenger showed strong growth in weekly downloads, especially in the weeks of March 11 and March 18, with figures reaching up to 820K. Revenue remained relatively low, peaking at $379 in early February. Active users showed a slight downward trend, starting at 48.8M and ending at 46.5M.

Snapchat saw a decrease in weekly downloads from 608K at the beginning of the quarter to about 424K by the end of March. Weekly revenue peaked at $3.2K in mid-February. Active users showed variability, ending the quarter with approximately 56.5M users, slightly higher than the start.
